On March 3, police shot and killed a man suspected in a string of aggravated robberies, who HPD officials say was trying to steal Smalls car from a Chevron gas station at Beechnut Street and Southwest Freeway after a chase.
The 19-year-old mother said the man told her to get out, but that she wouldn t because her baby was in the backseat. Police quickly surrounded the vehicle.
Police said the officer, identified only as 15-year veteran E. Garza, opened fire after the man refused to drop his gun and that he was worried harm would come to the mother or her baby.

Inquiries by the Australian Federal Police-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation identified a Melbourne man as the user of the service.

The suspended Eastern Cape school principal accused of instructing a pupil to extract his phone from a pit latrine has been granted bail.
In a brief appearance before the Tsolo magistrate s court, Lubeko Lennox Mgandela, 49, was released on bail of R2,500.
He faces charges of child abuse after the charge was changed from attempted murder.
Mgandela was arrested on Monday after he allegedly forced an 11-year-old boy to strip down to his underwear and sift through human faeces to find a smartphone the principal had accidentally dropped into the toilet.

A Chinese mother has gone viral on TikTok after a CCTV camera at her workplace captured the moment her sharp reflexes saved her son from a headfirst fall.
The mom, who local media outlets referred to as Wen, shared the close call to Douyin the original version of TikTok released for Chinese markets on Monday.
The surveillance video reportedly shows Wen sitting on a bench inside her shop in Dongguan, in southern China s Guangdong province, as she prepares to change her baby s diaper.
